Honey: Research You Can Use
presented by Ian M. Paul, MD, MSc and Mitzi Dulan, RD, CSSD
Tuesday, February 28, 2012
1:30pm EST
One CPE available for those who attend the "live" webinar.
Each year, consumers spend billions of dollars on over-the-counter (OTC) medications to soothe their coughs. However, many parents are left looking for alternative remedies in light of announcements that dextromethorphan (DM)-the most common OTC treatment- is not recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics or the American College of Chest Physicians for children.
For centuries, honey has been used to help soothe coughs and research confirms this approach for children ages 1 and over. However, research also indicates that Moms are not aware of the alternative uses of honey and health professionals may not be familiar with the science.
You're invited to join Ian M. Paul, MD, MSc, a pediatrician, researcher and professor of pediatrics and public health sciences at Penn State College of Medicine Department of Pediatrics and Mitzi Dulan, RD, CSSD to learn about the research supporting honey as a natural cough suppressant as well as tools developed for health professionals by the National Honey Board that you can use to educate your patients and clients.
